Steven Smith Leads Rangers under-18s to the Scottish FA Youth Cup
- Steven Smith (Head Coach) and Conor Brennan (Head of Academy Goalkeeping) have helped lead Rangers U18s to a Scottish FA Youth Cup win
- It's the eighth time the Ibrox side have won the competition
Football Careers are delighted to congratulate clients Steven Smith and Conor Brennan and his Rangers under-18s side on their Scottish FA Youth Cup win. They beat Aberdeen in the final at Hampden Park in a 2-1 thanks to two second-half goals from Findlay Curtis and Joshua Gentles. It’s the eighth time the Ibrox side have won the competition, bringing home the cup in three of the last four seasons.
After dominating the first forty-five minutes without finding a breakthrough, Smith’s side found themselves a goal down on 65 minutes, with Aberdeen’s Timothy Akindileni finding a way past goalkeeper Mason Munn. Rangers fought back though, and within five minutes they had found an equaliser, as Curtis took responsibility from twelve yards and slotted home the penalty. Then, seven minutes later, they found themselves in the lead.
There was an element of luck about the winner, as Gentles volley took a deflection off an Aberdeen body. Yet Rangers showed their resilience with the remaining fourteen minutes, and Munn had an excellent display in goal to keep the Dons from equalising.
This is a fantastic achievement for head coach Steven Smith, who has been with the Glasgow club for over four years in several youth development roles. We are also thrilled for Conor Brennan, who has been at the club for over five years and recently took on the role of Head of Academy Goalkeeping.
Football Careers wishes them both all the best for the future.
