Stephen Constantine named Pakistan Men’s National Team Manager
- The London-born manager brings a wealth of experience to his new role
- On 17th October, Constantine led the squad to a stunning 1-0 victory over Cambodia, securing the country's first ever World Cup Qualifier win
The Pakistan Football Federation has named Football Careers client Stephen Constantine as
its new national squad manager. Taking up the reins, the London-born manager brings a wealth of playing and managerial experience to the Islamabad-based team.
A multi-national career to date
Constantine has had a colourful career that began as a player in America for the Pennsylvania Stoners and New York Pancyprian-Freedoms. Due to a knee injury, he retired at the age of 28.
His time across the pond did not stop there, as he started a career in coaching that then took him to Cyprus. He went on to manage various clubs in the Cypriot leagues and seven national teams, including Rwanda and Sudan.
One of Constantine’s biggest achievements saw him lead the Indian National Squad to qualify for the Asian Cup in 2019. He joins the Pakistan team from Indian Super League side East Bengal, where he was Head Coach until April 2023.
Coming in to tackle a critical FIFA World Cup qualifier, Constantine has shown his confidence in the squad and determination to succeed. Facing the challenge of working with limited resources, he remarked in an interview with local press: “We need to unite and get behind Pakistan football as one family.”
The new manager went on to guide the squad to victory over Cambodia with a stunning 1-0 result at home, securing the country’s first ever World Cup Qualifier win and ending the team’s 13-game, five-year losing streak.
He exclusively told Football Careers: “Unbelievable scenes in Islamabad. I have never seen so many grown men cry. I can’t actually describe the feeling of what this means to the people of Pakistan. Really truly something I will never forget.
“I honestly can’t believe it, half the team are not even playing in leagues… the other half are in lower European leagues and have had nine days of training.”
Stephen, who is currently completing a Master of Science degree in Sports Directorship, brings extensive tactical knowledge and experience to the national side. We’ll eagerly watch his progress with the Pakistan squad, who will face Saudi Arabia on 16th November in the next round of World Cup Qualifiers.
