Peter Leven Returns to Scottish Football as Aberdeen's New First Team Coach

Football Careers client Peter Leven’s coaching adventure has taken him from Scotland to Belarus to Russia.

In an exciting career move, he has now returned to his homeland after being appointed First Team Coach at SPFL Premiership club Aberdeen FC.

Peter is the newest addition to Aberdeen manager Barry Robson’s coaching staff following the departure of Liam Fox at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The former midfielder chalked up over 300 appearances in his professional playing career, which he kicked off at Rangers and continued with Kilmarnock, Chesterfield, MK Dons, and Oxford United.

Following the culmination of his playing career at 29 years old due to a long-term knee issue, he transitioned into coaching with an Academy role at Middlesbrough before being appointed Assistant Manager at Kilmarnock.

Peter then had a very successful spell with Belarusian Premier League outfit Dynamo Brest, where as assistant to Marcel Licka he helped the club win the 2019 league title and two Belarusian Super Cups. Peter gained more overseas experience as he linked with Licka again at Russian club FC Orenburg to guide the side to promotion to the Russian top flight.

Now, however, he is back in Scotland and looking forward to working with Barry Robson. Peter, speaking to Aberdeen FC’s website, said:

“Aberdeen is a huge club, so I am delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of Barry’s staff. Barry has a clear vision of what he wants to achieve this season and has high standards driven by himself and his coaching staff, so I am really excited about the challenge which lies ahead.”

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson is excited to get Peter on board. Barry said:

“Peter is someone I have known for a while. I was on my Pro Licence with him and I was really impressed. He’s really intense, enthusiastic and he also has great contacts all over Europe, which will be really beneficial as we prepare for the challenges which lie ahead in Europe this season.

“He’s also worked with young players who are getting close to the first team so that wide-ranging coaching experience will be invaluable as he supports the pathway for young talent here at Aberdeen.”
