Mark Kennedy joins Swindon Town as Head Coach
- Kennedy has 12 years of coaching and managerial experience
- His appointment at Swindon Town comes after a torrid 2023/24 campaign for The Robins
Ex-Premier League star Mark Kennedy has been appointed Head Coach of English Football League Two side Swindon Town.
Kennedy retired from professional football in 2012 following a twenty-year career which saw him play for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Crystal Palace. Following his retirement at Ipswich Town, Kennedy joined the East Anglian side’s coaching staff where he coached Academy players before becoming the side’s U21 Head Coach.
Following a successful four years at Ipswich Town, the 48-year-old left the club to take up a coaching role at Manchester City before moving on to manage Wolves’ U23 side in 2019.
Then in January 2020, Kennedy took the reigns as Head Coach at League Two side Macclesfield Town. Unfortunately, however, Kennedy would only manage the side in 12 games as the COVID-19 pandemic blighted the 2019/2020 season. The former Republic of Ireland international left the club in the same year due to the Silkmen’s financial issues.
Following a brief return to Ipswich Town as a coach, Kennedy joined up with Lee Bowyer to become his former teammate’s Assistant Manager at Birmingham City. Kennedy spent a year at the club before being appointed Head Coach of League One side Lincoln City.
After leaving Lincoln towards the end of 2023, Kennedy has now been appointed Head Coach of League Two side Swindon Town. The Robins endured a torrid campaign in 2023/24, where they finished 19th, just about staving off relegation.
Kennedy will be hoping to breathe new life into this Swindon Town side and everyone here at Football Careers wishes him the best of luck in doing so.
