Craig Alcock secures new role at Luton Town as U18s Assistant Coach
- The former Peterborough United and Doncaster Rovers defender takes on his new role in continuance with his current position as U15/U16 Coach at the club
Former Peterborough United and Doncaster Rovers defender Craig Alcock has been appointed U18s Assistant Coach at Premier League side Luton Town. Alcock takes on his new role in continuance with his current position as U15/U16 Coach at the club.
Beginning his senior playing career with National League South’s Yeovil Town in 2005, Alcock would make 107 appearances for the club during his six-year tenure and became its youngest-ever captain at age 19.
In 2011, the UEFA A Licence holder joined EFL League One outfit Peterborough United, forming part of 2014’s EFL Trophy-winning team and chalking up more than 100 appearances for the Posh.
Alcock moved to Sheffield United in 2014 and went on to play for Doncaster Rovers and Cheltenham Town, then returned to Yeovil Town in 2019. Before he hung up his boots in 2022, the 35-year-old spent his final playing days at Eastern Counties League Division One South side Harlow Town, where he held a dual player-coach position.
By then, Alcock had already begun attaining his coaching badges, and had already gained experience as an Assistant Academy Coach at former club Peterborough United. A recent graduate of VSI’s MSc in Sports Directorship programme, Alcock has also worked with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur in the role of Global Development Football Coach.
Since 2022, the skilled coach has been tasked with supporting and developing Luton Town Academy’s young footballers as coach of its U15/U16 squad. The team competes in the South East Category 3 programme, which mirrors the U18s games programme and pits the squad against teams from the Southeast and Southwest regions.
Alcock’s keen understanding of Luton Town and its Academy system — alongside his coaching acumen and the knowledge he has garnered from his own playing career — stands him in good stead as he settles into his new position as U18s Assistant Coach at the Premier League club.
