Adam Asghar Kicks
off New Chapter as Southampton U21 Manager
- The former Dundee United and Sunderland AFC youth coach sets his sights on engineering the next generation of stars at Southampton's famed EFL academy.
Former Dundee United coach and current Football Careers client, Adam Asghar has taken up a new role within EFL Championship side, Southampton FC’s academy, having been appointed as the head coach of the under-21 team and joining up with fellow Scotsman, Russell Martin.
This appointment marks a Dundee United reunion for Asghar, with former Tannadice Head of Academy, Andy Goldie, who now occupies a similar role at St. Mary’s.
Asghar’s most recent coaching venture involved leading Sunderland’s renowned under-18 team, where he achieved the distinction of guiding them to a runner-up position in the Northern Section of the U18 Premier League during the previous season. A testament to the Scottish coach’s focus on developing younger players.
On his departure from Sunderland, Asghar said: “I would like to thank everyone involved at Sunderland AFC and the Academy for a brilliant year.
Extremely fortunate to work with an outstanding staff and talented group of players who are also top people.
Very proud of what we managed to achieve during our time together and I am excited to see what the future holds for the young players at the football club. I wish everyone involved at the club all the very best”
Adam Asghar took up a prominent role with Dundee United when he was enlisted by then-manager, Tam Courts to bolster the club’s senior coaching staff. His initial entry into the organisation, however, was back in March 2019 when he was handpicked by Andy Goldie to serve as the Head of Professional Performance for Dundee United, maintaining a significant professional association with the club over the past few years.
